From 16 to 22 June this year a study tour to Spain was organized within the framework of component B “Enhancing engineering services and capacity in infrastructure management” of the Sustainable Rural Development Project, which is implemented by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The Uzbek delegation included representatives of the khokimiyats of the choosen territories – Republic of Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Bukhara, and Navoi regions, UNDP and JPIU staff. Delegates attended meetings to exchange experiences at the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Construction and Urban Development, Ministry of Environment of Spain, Polytechnic University of Madrid, School of Agronomy and Biosystems Center, School of Architecture, University of Telecommunications.
The objectives of this visit were:
- Explore Spain's sustainable development strategies and initiatives for innovative solutions in sustainable urban planning, energy and water efficiency.
- Increasing attractiveness and sustainability in planning, reducing harmful air emissions and integrating these practices into local agriculture.
- Exploring opportunities to strengthen the capacity of local architects and engineers in implementing sustainable solutions in Uzbekistan.
During the study visit, participants not only deepened their understanding of Spain’s sustainable development strategies and initiatives, but also studied best practices in architectural spatial planning, sustainable architecture, and innovative energy and water conservation solutions, discussing the adaptation of these practices for Uzbekistan.
