Meeting with young architects and students in Bukhara

The Sustainable Rural Development Project Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan and representatives of the United Nations Development Program conducted another visit to Bukhara region.

During this visit at the Bukhara Institute of Engineering and Technology was held the presentation of the contest of young architects and urban planners “Smart Rural Planning”, which was announced as part of the project.

This meeting was organized in order to attract to participate the “Smart Rural Planning” contest active and talented young people from all over the country, especially from the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Bukhara, and Navoi regions, where the project will be implemented.

At the meeting, which was attended by teachers, students, and young professionals from the school as well as media representatives, the participants were informed about the Sustainable Rural Development Project and the “Smart Rural Planning” contest, in which young people can participate with their projects for the title of winner in the following 3 directions, which runs until July 30 this year::

- “Smart rural settlement” – general plan/conceptual design of the village area;

- “Smart district” - master plan/conceptual design of a city/district;

- “Green building” - design of a public building or facility for social purposes.

Those gathered at the meeting received answers to their questions related to identifying the best projects and their practical implementation in the future. The main aim of this contest is to involve young people in the socio-economic development of regions, cities, and villages; to develop and implement projects aimed at improving urban planning documents and introducing innovative, low-carbon design solutions and to establish cooperation with the media.

The proposals of students on the issues of energy efficiency of buildings and constructions, development of alternative energy sources, and establishment of rational use of water resources, which are topical for all regions of Uzbekistan, were heard. There was an exchange of opinions that considering these aspects in the projects submitted to the “Smart Rural Planning” contest will give an advantage to specialists.

At the end of the meeting, young people and professionals who had actively participated were awarded commemorative gifts from the organizers.
