Meetings with students were held as part of the “Smart Rural Planning” contest

Meetings with students from the Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent and Tashkent University of Architecture and Construction were organized as part of the Smart Rural Planning” contest for young architects and urban planners to address urban planning and infrastructure problems in regions.

This contest, initiated by the Sustainable Rural Development Project Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan and UNDP, aims to involve young people in the socio-economic development of regions, cities, and villages - to develop and implement projects aimed at improving urban planning documents and introducing innovative, low-carbon design solutions.

The contest is open to architecture, engineering, and urban planning students, as well as independent professionals under the age of 35 with projects aimed at the social and economic development of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The organizers informed the students gathered at the meeting about the conditions of participation in the contest. In turn, during the meetings, held in an atmosphere of friendly and open conversation, young people received answers to many questions about the competition.

Author projects will be accepted from candidates till July 30 of the current year in 3 directions:

- “Smart rural settlement” – general plan/conceptual design of the village area;

- “Smart district” - master plan/conceptual design of a city/district;

- “Green building” - design of a public building or facility for social purposes.

During meetings with students at universities, the essence of the Sustainable Rural Development project and the role of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the country’s economic, social, and environmental situation were discussed.
