On 17 October of this year, a roundtable discussion dedicated to the expansion of business opportunities in agriculture was held within the framework of the Integrated Rural Development Project (Phase 2) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Samandar Sadullaev, UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan Akiko Fujii, representatives of the Islamic Development Bank, local authorities, relevant ministries and agencies, and international experts.
At the beginning of the meeting, the parties analyzed the work carried out so far within the joint project and identified the tasks to be implemented in the future. In particular, under the Integrated Rural Development Project, it is planned to implement 763 subprojects aimed at constructing and rehabilitating social sector and road infrastructure facilities in 157 mahallas located in 21 remote areas of Samarkand, Kashkadarya, and Surkhandarya regions.
During the roundtable discussion, which focused on the in-depth assessment of business opportunities and climate-resilient solutions in agriculture, experts analyzed the agricultural potential and challenges of the project areas. The analysis reviewed opportunities for developing agriculture, introducing climate-resilient crops, and increasing income sources for local farming households.
At the end of the meeting, participants exchanged views on the conducted analyses and received answers from specialists to their questions of interest.
